11-year-old killed as DTC bus runs her over in Patel Nagar; driver arrested

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver was arrested after allegedly running over an 11-year-old girl near Shadipur Depot in central Delhi’s Patel Nagar on Saturday night, police said. The accused driver fled the scene after the incident. According to police, a PCR call reporting the accident was received around 9.30 pm, prompting a police team to rush to the spot in Baljeet Nagar. On arrival, they found the minor girl critically injured. She was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The accused driver, identified as Kaptan Singh, a resident of Najafgarh, was later arrested. The bus involved in the incident has been seized for inspection, and a crime team examined the site. Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS pertaining to rash driving and causing death by negligence, and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident.
